This Sunday Desueño had a little photo shoot at Links Hall, a seductively hidden arts and performance space complete with an old-fashioned wooden bar. I helped by taking videos of the dances against the backdrop of the wooden auditorium seats. It’ll be useful to have this footage on file to draw on for samples in the future. Denita also invited Allison, a freelance photographer, to take individual and group photos of Desueño. I asked her a bit about her career, and she admitted that taking the plunge as a purely freelance photographer was stressful, but also pretty rewarding. Realizing that Allison didn’t look that much older than me reminded me that in less than a year, I will be graduating college, and decisions I make will carry more weight.
I loved seeing the dances come together with the costumes and spacing. I especially loved watching Llego unfold, and how it takes you for a ride, so that the slow and hushed parts aren’t a lull in the choreography, but rather part of the whole package, and gives you space to enjoy the rhythmic movements and anticipate the finish! I can’t wait to rehearse it again, and hopefully this time I’ll be a little less clueless.
