Thank you for coming to an Evening of Dance with Desueño

Desueño is a dance company that focuses on community engagement and social interaction. We consist of two parts, a Latin Shine Team and an Afro-Latin Jazz Troupe. Since its inception, Desueño has performed at more than 65 events.

The defining principle of Desueño is We dance with people.

Desueño is not only a dance company. It is a philosophy of bringing people joy. Our goal is to deliver joy, whether through performance, community outreach, or social dancing. We believe that dance is for everyone. We hope we bring you all joy tonight.

At this evening’s show, we will showcase a variety of Desueño repertoire choreographed by Desueño’s Director Denita Inez. We also welcome two guest pieces Mambo Elegance, co-choreographed by Itza Riedas and Denita Inez and Blue Jazz choreographed and danced by Brenda Rodriguez.

Special thanks to Ray Manrique of Ray Manrique Photography, the Staff and Directorship at Links Hall & Constellation, Surinder at See Chicago Dance, Current and Previous Desueño Dancers and the one and only DJ El Caobo.

We’d love to see you all at more Desueño events during the summer and beyond. You can sign up for our mailing list after the show.

Now please welcome Brenda Rodriguez

You just heard that “everyone dances.” And in the spirit of creating opportunities for everyone of all ages, communities, and levels to dance – I call Denita Inez a Movement Poet and one of the few women choreographers and teachers creating pieces and developing all levels of dancers. This evening represents this first invitation. She calls upon us to celebrate and embrace inclusion through music, dance and our heart rhythms. Tonight, Denita Inez is a testament of what it means to stretch beyond preconceived notions of art and dance, and instead imagine dance with grace, love, and openness. Regardless of one’s exposure or level of dance, this evening represents Denita’s choreographic vision, and her unique ability to teach others movement poetry. Her creativity and spirit are represented in the choreography of the pieces this evening.

It is this unique voice and energy that invites and welcomes all of us to dance.

Enjoy!
