Wanting to make a difference

I recently found out about a new event in the Chicago Latin Dance scene. It is the only event I know of that has a specific portion delegated to be a fundraiser for charity. Battleground Dance Show is an event created to re-energize the community about the importance of giving back. In high school we always had service learning projects.

In high school we always had service learning projects. Whether we were tutors at an elementary school, revitalizing parks, or working with the local library, it was a substantial part of our service to humanity. That may seem lofty to say, that we were helping the human race but even one more person giving their time and talent can truly make the world a better place.
So this weekend, I will be dancing for charity at the Park West Theater in Chicago for Battleground Dance Show. A portion of ticket proceeds will go to the winning couples charity. The charity my partner and I have picked to support is the American Red Cross. We specifically chose them due to their role in disaster relief efforts.

So come check out all of the amazing dancers presenting this weekend. And even if you don’t get a chance to come out. Decide to offer a few hours of service or make a donation to a charity you would like to support because one person can make a difference.

See you on the dance floor,
Denita
