Summer Dance

Summer Dance great shot for fb timeline

One of the reasons I moved to Chicago was for Chicago summer dance. Dancing to a live band with a fantastic view of the skyline won me over. Hosted by the department of Cultural Affairs, it provides free dance lessons followed by social dancing. The styles vary each night, ranging from swing to salsa, ballroom to Bollywood and beyond.

One of my favorite summer dance moments was from a few years ago. It had been my second time going to the event. Walking to Grant Park from the illustrious Michigan Ave, I was in awe of the sea of people who covered the park. You could feel the energy. People swaying to the music, talking, and laughing. As the band came to the stage, the roar of the crowd was palpable. Everyone was ready to dance. It was so open and friendly. It felt like a large block party. Laughter was contagious and I met so many new people that evening. With only two songs left, a light rain began to fall. It was a wondrously romantic end to the day. The lights of the city were pulsating with the music. A siren was calling me to stay, so I moved to Chicago.
Now when I go down to summer dance, I remember that first time. If you get a chance to visit Chicago in the summer, be sure to check it out.
